Resolutions, Ordinances, or Other Climate Legislation

This assessment is based on five pieces of legislation adopted by Coconino County between 2004 and 2024. The county has enacted two ordinances and three resolutions addressing renewable energy development and environmental protection. The ordinances establish regulatory frameworks for utility-scale renewable energy systems (wind, solar, and biomass) and accessory wind energy systems on private properties, setting performance standards and permitting requirements. The resolutions adopt an Energy Element policy framework to guide sustainable energy decisions, advocate for biomass energy development to address forest health challenges, and oppose uranium mining operations near Grand Canyon National Park due to watershed contamination and air quality risks. Together, these legislative actions focus on expanding renewable energy infrastructure while protecting environmental and public health resources.
