Resolutions, Ordinances, or Other Climate Legislation
This assessment is based on three resolutions adopted by the City of East Lansing. The city has committed to achieving 100% renewable electric energy by 2030 through energy efficiency improvements and solar energy expansion across municipal facilities, while also encouraging businesses, schools, and households to adopt renewable energy through community programs. East Lansing previously pledged to reduce emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by aligning with the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, with specific actions including energy audits, renewable energy transitions, improved transportation options, and increased recycling. Most recently, the city endorsed participation in the Resilient Communities for America Campaign to access resources and support for implementing its Climate Sustainability Plan, which focuses on reducing environmental impact and building community resilience through targeted investments and sustainable practices.

Reports & Planning Documents
This overview is based on one climate sustainability plan from East Lansing’s local government. The plan focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through five main areas: waste management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, and water management. Key programs include recycling and composting expansion, energy efficiency upgrades in city facilities, renewable energy installations, non-motorized transportation infrastructure development, and water management improvements. The plan also references a Green Building Policy requiring LEED-Silver certification for municipal construction projects.
