Resolutions, Ordinances, or Other Climate Legislation

This assessment is based on six pieces of legislation. The City of Pleasanton has adopted two ordinances and four resolutions focused on climate action and sustainability. Ordinance 2094 and 2095, both passed in May 2014, implement transportation demand management by incentivizing transit use, carpooling, and alternative vehicles, while also requiring pedestrian and bicycle access in new developments. Resolution 07-110 (2007) committed the city to join ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection Campaign and establish emissions reduction targets. The city’s Climate Action Plans, approved through resolutions in 2012 and updated in 2022-2023, establish specific greenhouse gas reduction targets and outline actions across six sectors including buildings and energy, transportation, materials consumption, natural systems, water resources, and community resilience. These legislative actions collectively represent the city’s comprehensive approach to reducing emissions and building climate resilience through regulatory mechanisms, infrastructure planning, and strategic planning frameworks.

The 2019 Climate Vulnerability Assessment examines risks across energy infrastructure, transportation, water systems, natural areas, and public health, projecting temperature increases of 3.4°F to 6.0°F by century’s end and identifying heightened vulnerabilities for elderly residents, low-income households, and communities of color from heat, wildfire smoke, and flooding.
