Resolutions, Ordinances, or Other Climate Legislation

This assessment is based on 2 pieces of legislation. In June 2021, Vista adopted an ordinance to reduce single-use plastics as part of its waste reduction and environmental sustainability efforts. Then in November 2023, the city unanimously adopted a resolution establishing “Clean Impact Plus” as the default power supply for all city customers, providing them with 50% renewable and 75% carbon-free energy at no additional cost. Together, these actions address two key climate priorities: reducing plastic waste and transitioning to cleaner energy sources for residents.

Reports & Planning Documents

This overview is based on two Climate Action Plans from the City of Vista addressing greenhouse gas reduction strategies. The reports focus on reducing emissions primarily from transportation and energy sectors through measures including renewable electricity transition, street lighting conversion to energy-efficient alternatives, solar installation, bicycle infrastructure expansion, electric vehicle charging requirements, and waste diversion programs. Implementation involves a CAP Coordinator, multi-departmental teams, and community partnerships, with progress tracked through annual or biennial reports to City Council and greenhouse gas inventory updates every five years. The plans also address climate adaptation strategies for temperature increases, water availability, flooding, and wildfire risks.
