Resolutions, Ordinances, or Other Climate Legislation
This assessment is based on one piece of legislation. On August 26, 2019, the City of Salmon Arm passed a resolution committing to develop a comprehensive Climate Action Plan to address climate impacts like wildfires and provincial climate emergencies. The resolution allocated $15,000 from the city’s Climate Action Reserve and hired the Community Energy Association to lead the planning process, establishing climate action as a key priority for future municipal decisions and spending. Prior to this resolution, Salmon Arm had already undertaken various environmental initiatives including recycling and composting programs, geothermal heating at City Hall, landfill gas capture, solar studies, hybrid vehicle purchases, LED lighting upgrades, and restrictions on pesticide use. The resolution represents the city’s formal commitment to creating and carrying out climate action strategies in response to the growing climate crisis.
